Au Pair Support

How to apply

When you apply
In order to be granted a residence permit in Denmark, you must complete an application form for au pairs from the Immigration Service. The form includes information about how to complete it and which documents to attach. Your host family in Denmark begins the application process by completing their part of the application form (part 2 and 3) and forwarding it to you. You then complete your part of the form (part 1 and 2), attach the required documents, and submit the final application.

Where to submit your application
Your application should be submitted or forwarded to a Danish Consulate General or Embassy in your country of origin. If you have been registered in a country other than your country of origin for more than the past three months, you can submit the application to a Danish diplomatic mission in that country or any another country. If you live in the Philippines, your application can be submitted or handed in at the Norwegian Embassy in Manila.

If you submit your application in Denmark

If you submit your application when you are already in Denmark, the Immigration Service may refuse your application. You will then have to return to your country of origin and apply from there. If you are staying legally in Denmark at the time you apply for a residence permit as an au pair, you can remain in Denmark until the application has been processed by the Immigration Service. If the Immigration Service refuses your application, you can appeal the decision to the Ministry of Refugee, Immigration and Integration Affairs. If you live in Denmark, you may submit your application at the Service Centre of the Immigration Service or at your local police station (if you live outside the Greater Copenhagen area).

Receiving a response to your application
The decision regarding your application is submitted to the Danish diplomatic mission where you applied. They will then mail it to you or will request that you pick it up in person. If you submit your application in Denmark, the decision will be sent to your address in Denmark, or to your attorney, either by a message from the Police or by requesting you to pick it up in person from the Service Centre of the Immigration Service. If your application has been rejected, you will be told to leave Denmark before a specific date. In this case, you will be informed of your opportunities to appeal the decision.
