Finances:
Question: Who should pay if the au pair accidentally ruins some of the host family's property/clothes?
Answer: The host family's insurance will cover it.

Question: Who should pay for the au pair’s language school, bus card, mobile phone, and shampoo, soap etc. for the au pair's personal use?
Answer: The au pair must pay herself or himself unless otherwise agreed with the host family.

Question: When is the au pair entitled to a monthly allowance of DKK 3,050?
Answer: If the au pair application is submitted 1 January 2011 or later. If the application was submitted in the period from 1 January 2010 to 31 December 2010, the au pair must be paid DKK 3,000. If the application was submitted in the period from 1 July to 31 December 2009, the au pair must be paid DKK 2,900 and if it was submitted before 1 July 2009, the amount is DKK 2,500.

Travelling expenses:
Question: Who should pay for the au pair's journey home to a country outside Europe?
Answer: The host family. If the au pair has changed host family, it is the last host family who must pay – regardless of how short a period the au pair has been staying with the new host family before the expiration of the residence permit.

Question: Is the au pair entitled to be paid money instead of being paid for the journey home?
Answer: No, the au pair is only entitled to be paid for the journey home.

Question: Who should pay for the au pair's journey to Denmark?
Answer: The au pair must pay herself/himself unless otherwise agreed with the host family.

Question: Can the host family avoid payment of the journey home because they have paid for the au pair's journey to Denmark?
Answer: No. The host family must always pay for the au pair's journey home to any country outside Europe.

Question: Is it possible to come to Denmark as an au pair several times?
Answer: No. You can only be an au pair in Denmark for a maximum period of 24 months, though during this period you may stay with several host families.

Question: Can a residence permit for an au pair be extended beyond 24 months?
Answer: No. Your residence permit cannot be extended beyond 24 months. 

Question: Who should unregister the au pair at the National Registration Office when the au pair moves?
Answer: The host family must unregister the au pair. If the host family has not unregistered a previous au pair at the National Registration Office, an application for a new au pair will, in general, be refused.

Question: Should the au pair be invited to join the family on holiday?
Answer: That is up to the host family. If the au pair is not invited, the host family must provide food or money for food to the au pair while the family is away on holiday.

Question: Is the au pair allowed to stay with anyone other than the host family?
Answer: No, this is not possible under any circumstances.
