Mediation
Do you find it hard to communicate with your host family? Do you experience misunderstandings and minor conflicts? Are you normally happy with each other and the relationship? Then there is a good chance that Au pair Support can help you. We offer mediation to au pairs and host families who are interested in continuing their relationship but need some assistance in order to have a better dialogue. If you seek help in good time, a conflict which might result in you ending the relationship may be avoided.
Voluntary network
If you would like to meet other people outside your host family, the Danish Refugee Council's voluntary network may give you the opportunity. The network, which has branches in several places around the country, offers activities such as coaching, language training, excursions, sewing circles and social and cultural events. Contact Au pair Support to find out more about the network in your area.
Individual advice
If you are not sure about your rights and obligations as an au pair, you can contact Au Pair Support for advice and guidance. It may concern the kinds of chores you are asked to perform or what you can do if you think the relationship with the host family is not functioning well.
Contact person
If you are in a difficult situation and you cannot talk to your host family about it, you are always welcome to contact Au pair Support. Our consultants can help you clarify your rights and work out what action is possible. If you just need someone to talk to about your worries, the Danish Refugee Council can put you in contact with a contact person through our network of volunteers. The contact person cannot help you with specific problems – but can listen and support you during difficult times.
Language training
If you would like to learn Danish, we can teach you at Lærdansk, the Danish Refugee Council's language centres. As an au pair your are entitled to follow two modules of Danish instruction. You can find more information about these language centres, education and training on the Lærdansk website.
